EYES
The purpose of this series was to explore the concept of iconography.
Within my series I wanted to alter the symbol of the eye, and examine it within a whimsical and harsh perspective, breaking down the anatomy and observing it as a structure rather than in a purely medical sense.
Playing with the color in an intuitive way, such as exaggerating the saturation, in order to keep the reality of my symbol as loose as possible while still pushing the boundaries of what is recognizable, while also letting the medium dictate the direction of the piece through trial and error. With the example of “Untitled 2” a soft effect was created due to graphite interacting with the smooth surface of the tracing paper it was illustrated on. The iridescent bouquet wrapping paper overlaid on top led to the experimentation with light interacting with the piece and how that affected the image.
All of these techniques were made with the intent to push realism away from the subject without fully obscuring it.
